Position description

The CNSI Shared Facilities Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing CNSI's Biological Nanostructures Laboratory, the Quantum Structures Facility, the Confocal Microscope and Spectroscopy Facility and Innovation Workshop (collectively, CNSI Shared Facilities). The Shared Facilities Lead, working collaboratively with CNSI Director, CNSI Executive Director, and campus lab managers, campus administrators, offices, and departments, develops and implements strategic programs to expand and optimize CNSI's shared facilities, creating new revenue opportunities and a robust user base that will bolster research and education efforts at CNSI and campus-wide.

Strategic Program Planning and Management
Develops strategic plans for sustaining and growing CNSI shared facilities,
facilitating multi-PI and multi-campus partnerships, expanding both internal and external user bases, and identifying new funding opportunities.
Identifies strategic opportunities for CNSI shared facilities through interactions with a variety of stakeholders, including both the internal and external user base, faculty, federal and state funding agencies, private foundations, workforce development agencies, state and regional governmental agencies, national laboratories, industry partners.
Leads, coordinates, and manages proposal preparation and submission
processes to secure new funding from identified sources.
As appropriate, collaborates with programs and facilities across campus to develop mutually beneficial, collaborative programming and initiatives.
Institutes broad outreach efforts to boost the visibility and impact of CNSI shared facilities.
Develops and oversees infrastructure for shared experimental facilities critical to supporting research, innovation, translation, workforce development, and entrepreneurship
Budgetary Responsibilities
Oversees budget for CNSI Shared Facilities, working with the CNSI Director and CNSI Executive Director to develop new revenue streams and opportunities.
Management of CNSI Innovation Workshop
Manages day-to-day operations of CNSI Innovation Workshop.

Qualifications


Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

BS in mechanical engineering, material science, applied physics, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

At least three (3) years managing a shared experimental facility in an academic setting.
Experience with rapid prototyping facilities and instrumentation, including additive manufacturing.
