Job Description:


This full-time MCCC Unit position will be responsible for maintaining the operation of the veterinary technology clinical instruction facility.

Job Specifications:
  • Work with faculty and the Veterinary Technology Program Coordinator to assess clinical instructional needs
  • Maintain clean and orderly animal housing, feeding, and laundry areas
  • Assist instructors during class and clinical sessions
  • Order and maintain inventory of required supplies and equipment
  • Maintain the care, health, and well-being of animal colonies used in clinical instruction during the year
  • Maintain an organized prep plan to ensure that clinical instructional labs are properly set up and meet animal care and use guidelines
  • Ensure safe cleanup and disposal of used materials, including sharps and other biological waste
  • Coordinate student interns and part-time workers
  • Maintain records required for safety and maintaining animal health to comply with all local, state and federal safety and animal care regulations
  • Work with faculty to troubleshoot and streamline clinical laboratory activities for students.
  • Assist students as needed during laboratory sessions
  • Work with faculty and students to facilitate compliance with safety policies and procedures, and provide training on laboratory safety
  • Assess divisional compliance with all lab policies, animal welfare, and safety requirements and report any discrepancies or other problems to the Dean of Science and Mathematics
  • Monitor other laboratory personnel
  • Collaborate with other laboratory technicians that manage, the Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Emerging Technology laboratories in order to streamline common practices
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions
  • Other duties and projects as assigned



Requirements:


  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology, animal science, or related field
  • Training and/or experience involving laboratory operations and/or animal care

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and follow protocols for clinical setup and animal care
  • Ability to develop prep plans with a high degree of independence
  • Familiarity with purchasing and inventory of equipment and supplies, including maintenance of all safety documentation for chemical inventories
  • Ability to maintain laboratory stations, prepare and maintain equipment and tools for classes
  • Ability to identify future equipment needs and plan future purchases/ maintenance to ensure continued smooth operation of laboratory facilities
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Standard level skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook)
  • Basic keyboarding & grammar skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and be organized
  • Ability to adapt and learn new techniques
  • Knowledge of basic handling and animal care

Please note: the classification title for this position is Biology Laboratory Technician

Hours: 37.5 hours a week, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Occasional weekend and evening work required. Hours are subject to change between academic semesters and the schedule may vary based on the needs of the students & faculty.

Salary: $41,983 - $45,231 Grade 2. Salary is commensurate and based on the MCCC Classification Study.

Worksite: Primarily Canton. Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
