Associate Vice President for Facilities Services Position Profile Anticipated Hiring Range: Up to $190,000 annually (Commensurate with qualifications) An Exciting Opportunity in Higher Education Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) is conducting a search for an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Facilities Services. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an accomplished facilities professional to lead the strategy and operations of the Facilities Services department. The Position The Associate Vice President leads all aspects of Facilities Services, including but not limited to Business Services, Customer Service Center, Warehouse, License of Facilities, Energy, Utilities and all of the Facilities Maintenance shops (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Automation, Landscape, Custodial, Fleet, Paint, Lock, Carpenter) and Sustainability. The primary purpose of this position is to lead from the front, providing visionary leadership through coaching and affiliation with the Divisional Goals and Departmental Strategy Map. This position will assist motivated employees to succeed in current roles within existing resources and develop professional long-term aspirations. This role is responsible for managing and reducing deferred maintenance (DM) backlogs through efficient and effective organizational development, prioritizing preventative maintenance activities. These deferred maintenance duties include maintaining the ISES Facility Condition Assessment database and prioritizing the most critical DM projects for funding in the capital program. In addition to providing leadership for in-house maintenance employees, the incumbent oversees various vendor contracts for custodial, landscape, elevators, plumbing, high voltage, etc., evaluating vendor performance and overseeing quality, cost and performance of contractors. The incumbent will also participate on various campus committees and serve as a facilities liaison to the community, Chancellor's Office, local, state and federal agencies on Facilities Services functions. This position will ensure that the operations and sustainability perspectives are represented in the design and review of capital projects to ensure that the new and renovated facilities are constructed with a maintainable life cycle. Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • 8 - 10 years supervisory experience with 5 years leadership experience within a multi-faceted facilities maintenance organization
  • Demonstrated management experience leading and overseeing facilities operations and services common to a multi-faceted facilities maintenance organization including resource planning
  • Thorough knowledge of the maintenance and construction trades, including but not limited to: carpentry, hardware, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain a productive working relationship and to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies within the university, the Chancellor's Office and with contractors and consultants
  • Ability to read, interpret and formulate plans, specifications, estimate costs, analyze architectural plans, monitor the work of trades, contractors, construction engineers and other project personnel
  • Thorough knowledge in Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer Certified Education Facilities Professional (CEFP) certification through the Association of Physical Plant Administrators
  • Supervisory experience within collective bargaining and represented staff environment
  • Experience planning and implementing deferred maintenance and utility infrastructure projects
  • Experience in facilities maintenance and operational management of a College, University, or related facility
