    Department Summary

    Facilities Planning & Management is here to provide, maintain, and enhance the campus community in support of the University's mission. Facilities Planning & Management consists of two divisions whose combined scope encompasses all aspects of Facilities at California State University, San Bernardino: Facilities Management and Facilities Planning, Design & Construction.


    Job Summary
    • To provide preventive maintenance, repair and modification of a wide range of automotive, maintenance, construction and/or other power-driven equipment.
    • Performs skilled work in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, service and adjustment of campus automotive, heavy maintenance, heavy construction and farm equipment.
    • Requires the independent performance of skilled, journey-level automotive and/or heavy equipment mechanical work.
    • Service riding lawnmowers, blowers, weed eaters, and gasoline-powered tractors, generators, air compressors, dump trucks, and other Grounds equipment.
    • Perform P/PM on all Grounds equipment as scheduled, following written instructions for oil changes, lubrication, and general maintenance.
    • Under supervision of the Supervisor, make repairs to Grounds equipment.
    • Maintain accurate work records. Complete all work orders, including all times and materials used.
    • Be familiar with basic replacement parts.
    • Maintain shop, tools, and equipment in a clean, neat, and safe manner.
    • Other work as assigned.


    Employment Status: Full-time, probationary, "non-exempt" position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

    Work Schedule

    Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.



    Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of automotive and/or equipment mechanics including electrical systems and brake and engine overhaul.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, tools, materials, equipment and computerized systems used in the maintenance, adjustment and repair of engines, equipment and accessories.
  • Working knowledge of wiring and electrical theory and engine principles and of hydraulic systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations pertaining to automotive and other power-driven equipment, including applicable smog regulations.
  • Ability to make skilled repairs to applicable automotive, maintenance and/or construction equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions and perform a variety of skilled repairs on equipment.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, drawings and sketches to fabricate parts.
  • Ability to perform required welding; inspect vehicles and equipment and determine extent of repairs.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain more complex reports and record and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems and prepare standard reports.
  • Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations required by the position.
  • Ability to analyze and respond appropriate to emergency situations.
  • Must possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.


    Education and Experience

    Experience: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience as an automotive and/or equipment mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard apprenticeship program.

    License: Must possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to lift, move, or carry 50lbs or more.



    Salary:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,402 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $5,402 - $6,904 per month
