Purpose of Position
Directs institutional housekeeping program to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions of establishment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Keeps internal areas and exterior entry areas of buildings in clean and orderly condition. Maintains an orderly, clean and aesthetically pleasing environment within our buildings for our students, faculty, staff, and customers.

Essential Functions
Supervises Building Attendant/Custodial personnel and projects.

Establishes standards and procedures for work of Building/Custodial staff.

Inspects and evaluates physical condition of establishment; submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, relocation of equipment, and reallocation of space.

Purchases and inventories shop supplies, machinery, and equipment; investigates new and improved cleaning instruments and methods. Provides training and safety protocols on use of equipment, chemicals, etc.

Assist with university special projects or new programs as required (i.e.; Recycling Program).

Carries two-way radio and cell phone.

Must be available for "On-Call Duty."

On occasion, may need to perform Building attendant/Custodial duties.

Interprets and assigns work order specifications to personnel and plans work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and service.

Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator.

Interprets and translates company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations by conducting safety meetings.

Coordinates with other trades and department supervisors on work projects and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and working conditions to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

Analyzes and resolves work problems.

Attends weekly department staff meetings and performs performance evaluations for direct reports.

Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

Handles customer complaints.

Maintains timecards and attendance reports for proper entry into timekeeping software and Peoplesoft.

Flexible work schedule required for evenings, weekends, depending on events and/or department needs.

Other duties as assigned.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises employees in the Building Attendant/Custodial Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Three to five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Communication Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn to use institutional software systems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System BPM 16-05-02.

Other Qualifications:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred and occasional travel may be required.

May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe or Non-slippery shoes, eye protection, and rubber or leather gloves.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
