Position Summary: The Building Services Supervisor supervises building services staff by empowering them through encouragement, training, and team work. This position provides proper equipment and supplies for the job, sets objectives and measures effectiveness. The supervisor will monitor storage issues and work toward departmental improvements.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Respond to any requests or work orders submitted by the students either by phone or in person.

This includes verifying if a student is comfortable having facilities enter their living quarters, before proceeding with any assigned work.
  • Establish and maintain a positive credibility with the students.
  • Maintain a positive contact with the campus community through work orders, phone calls and as buildings are checked during walk-throughs. Handle needs as requested.
  • Maintain contact with the parents during student move in/out and during special events through-out the year. Assist with any requests parents may have.
  • Supervise custodial staff.
  • Train staff concerning safety and proper use of equipment involved with the job, and proper techniques used to complete the tasks.
  • Gather, review and turn in employee timesheets.
  • Process all work orders assigned to them.
  • Work with project managers and handle various management aspects of Planned Major Maintenance as well as auxiliary remodels. On smaller projects works to set project scope,
    meet with contractors, checks on work in progress and check on final outcome to approve payment.
  • Promote and support a professional environment that welcomes students, faculty, staff, and vendors, and enables them to access our services in an encouraging, organized, effective, and helpful way.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of custodial staff and student staff assigned to building services area
  • In coordination with manager of building services, HR and the associate vice president, the supervisor will hire, train, conduct performance reviews, take corrective action, provide positive rewards and feedback, and respond to complaints. This includes upholding the standards in the Code of Conduct and other university policies, modeling professionalism in all interactions, and respectfully hearing staff input and concerns either directly or from Human Resources.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D
  • Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain one as required
  • 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supervisory experience desired
  • Good communication skills and ability to successfully interact and work with all members of the campus community
  • Understanding of departmental needs
  • Ability to support staff and build a welcoming and inclusive team environment
  • Basic knowledge of housekeeping, floor care and carpet care
  • Knowledge of chemical and dilution ratio
  • Experience with carpet extractor, vacuums, automatic floor scrubber and buffers (high and low speed)
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
