University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: 33119
Salary: $4,842 - $9,591 monthly

Position Description:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Operations, the Director of Building Operations is responsible for management and oversight of the School of Law facilities located both on and off the UCLA campus. The Director manages the functional and educational operations of the building ensuring the facilities are prepared to host daily activities including the instruction of up to 1200 students, lunchtime and evening programmatic events, large-scale events such as VIP speakers, conferences, orientation, etc., which includes managing the school's event management system (EMS). The Director also coordinates with campus Facilities Management to address general maintenance issues like HVAC, plumbing, broken windows and light fixtures, custodial needs, and other general maintenance issues. The Director will engage in short term and long range strategic space planning, accounting for and anticipating growth in programs, faculty, and administrative space. This will include identifying opportunities to optimize the use of space, developing policies for the allocation of scarce space resources across the many competing needs (faculty offices, academic programs, student organizations, and administrative staff space) and determining the assignment of space throughout the School of Law. With consultation from law school and campus partners, the Director will develop design plans for a variety of spaces (faculty offices, administrative offices, academic programs and institutes, classrooms, and common areas) with a consistent look and feel.

We seek a team-oriented leader with strong communication and project management skills who will collaborate with central campus Department of Project Management Operations and Facilities Management units, as well as the law school community, on space renovations and general building maintenance. Our Director will develop policies and a schedule for the refreshing of various spaces (classrooms, student common areas, faculty and staff offices, etc.), and identify opportunities for the School of Law to meet environmental and green standards in energy. The Director will also work to address general safety issues and ensure compliance with ADA and OSHA regulations, collaborate with central campus Capital Programs, when appropriate, for large scale renovations and for developing a long range plan to construct a new building addition and manage all aspects of the Building Operations budget.
