HVAC/Maintenance Technician

The HVAC/Maintenance Technician trouble shoots and repairs Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment and building automation controls. This individual will provide safe, clean, functional and sustainable environments with a common goal of supporting students, faculty and staff in their endeavors to achieve academic excellence. Additionally, the Technician will perform other various routine maintenance tasks as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installs, repairs, adjusts, and maintains all HVAC equipment of the School in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Diagnoses HVAC problems and performs repairs in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
- Evaluates needed repairs and identifies materials and hours required to effectively accomplish repairs.
- Instructs users in the proper application and care of HVAC related systems and components.
- Manages A/C maintenance schedule of filter changes, coil cleanings, and deferred and planned maintenance.
- Attends classes and seminars as directed to update skills.
- Develops and maintains accurate records of work performed.
- Determines scope and performs projects as directed.
- Performs general building maintenance tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, painting, carpentry, and plumbing.
- Assists in moving boxes, desks, tables, and other items as assigned.
- Delivers and assembles equipment such as desks, easels, shelving, and other items as assigned.
- In addition, this position may be required to come into work on weekends, holidays and in emergency situations (i.e., will be subject to "on-call" responsibilities).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of skills in HVAC trade
- Ability to make electrical and copper repairs on A/C units, i.e., sweating copper
- Knowledge of A/C thermostat installations and operations
- Ability to document and track preventive maintenance activities
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work from blueprints and materials list
- Ability to use all trade appropriate tools
- Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Florida driver's license.
- At least two years verifiable experience as an HVAC technician or in the trade.
Preferred:
- HVAC certification from trade appropriate school.
- North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification
- EPA 608 certification
- HVAC experience in an Institutional Setting
