Maintains all locks and door hardware for the University. The supervisor of this position is the Lead Person for the Locksmith Shop.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains all of the locks, keys, hardware, hinges, and closers for the University. Installs new locks, disassembles locks, replaces tumblers, springs, knobs, strike plates, etc. This includes locks on doors, desks, and filing cabinets. Installs various types of locks (electric, push button, card swipe, etc.)
Makes keys in accordance with the master coding system. Rekeys locks for security reasons.
Maintains accurate records of hardware installations and issued keys. Records bidding combinations, names, locations, and dates.
Maintains inventory of supplies and materials such as blank keys, locksets, closers, and other parts.
Lifts heavy doors on a regular but not daily basis.
Performs all work through an automated work order system and documents the hours and materials expended. Reports all deficiencies beyond his responsibility on work orders or to the Leadperson.
Keeps Leadperson informed of all major jobs and any delays on major tasks.
Sweeps, vacuums, and cleans up the work area after completion of a job. Mantains tools so they are clean, operable, and properly stored.
Required Qualifications:
Reads, writes, and can follow directions.
Minimum of two years experience working as a locksmith. Technical school training may be considered in lieu of experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Locksmith licensed in the State of NJ per N.J.A.C. 13:31A-2.3
Two hours of training in Barrier Free Subcode, N.J.A.C. 5:23-7
Two hours of training in the NJ Uniform Const. Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23 (exclusive of the Barrier free code)
Two hours of training in the Americans with Disabilities Act Code, 36 CFR 1191
Two hours of training in industrial safety
Two hours of training in NJ law & rules governing the provision of burglar alarm, fire alarm, and locksmithing services.
Licenses and Certificates:
High school graduate or GED
Local 68 apprenticeship graduate or attendee
Possess valid NJ driver's license
