Job Description

The purpose of the Heat Plant & HVAC Manager is to manage the Heat Plant and HVAC departments at Facilities Services; develop plans for maintenance and replacement of HVAC and steam boiler equipment; supervise professional staff; assist with HVAC/Heat Plant related projects; and perform related work. Key responsibilities include:
  • Assists HVAC and Heat Plant Supervisors in managing workload and priorities
  • Provides master planning for maintenance and replacement of HVAC equipment and Heat Plant Operations
  • Assists with and provides guidance on HVAC and Heat Plant related projects. This entails working with Engineers/Architects, Projects Managers and Contractors
  • Hires and trains staff, sets standards, assigns work, and evaluates performance
  • Develops and recommends program budgets for both the HVAC team and Heat Plant teams
  • Monitors budgets, approves expenditures and evaluates programs for efficient operation

Minimum Qualifications
  • Five years of professional HVAC Experience
  • Experience in steam boiler operation
  • HVAC Journeyman License
  • Experience supervising staff and training employees in maintenance activities
  • Strong technical sills - Spreadsheets, office software, and facilities management software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing procedures and work plans
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating simultaneous HVAC and steam plant related projects
  • Experience evaluating HVAC needs of buildings and related facilities
  • Good knowledge of building codes and related regulations
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and climb ladders, and to lift 50 pounds, with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of experience supervising 10 or more full time employees
  • Two years experience operating a steam boiler
  • Three years of experience with team building, customer services and supporting a respectful workplace
  • Experience working in an educational environment
  • Experience in estimating projects
  • Five years annual budget management of $500,000 or more
  • Bachelor degree in engineering or other related field
Additional Information

Salary will be between $60,000 and $70,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
