Recreation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Facility and Field Maintenance Technician! The primary functions of this role are to provide excellent service in facility maintenance and repairs, assist with the Recreation Facility and Outdoor Field maintenance and repairs, and to take assigned work requests and use knowledge of trades work to complete the task in an efficient, cost effective, and safe manner. This role is responsible for carrying out the duties assigned using judgment and experience to decide the best course of action with minimal guidance.

This student-fee-funded unit features a student-led CUSG Recreation Board and a diverse team of professional experts to help meet evolving recreational needs and support student engagement and success. Recreation Services oversees the LEED Platinum main campus Student Rec Center, a building with over 300,000 square feet of recreation and fitness activity space, as well as a satellite recreation center at Williams Village, outdoor basketball courts, a challenge ropes course, and eight turf and grass fields around campus. Throughout these facilities, members of the CU community can engage with a variety of programs that include ice skating, indoor rock climbing, intramural and club sports, yoga, aquatics and so much more.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Facility Maintenance
  • Perform skilled and routine facility maintenance and repairs of building equipment, including aspects of plumbing, carpentry, and general labor duties.
  • Assist with regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Respond to facility-related emergencies and urgent maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and prolong the lifespan of equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of floors and walls including, patching, painting, replacing, and protecting as needed.
  • Troubleshoots, cleans, tests and performs other preventative maintenance tasks in the facility.
  • Collaborate with other departments and collaborators to address maintenance needs and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, standard processes, and advancements in facility and field maintenance techniques.

Outdoor Facility Work
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs of the outdoor recreation facilities.
  • Assist with lining sports fields, moving goals, tine/ groom turf fields.
  • Assist with staining and maintaining the CU Challenge Course
  • Assist in mowing and weed trimming the challenge course.
  • Assist in snow removal: around the Recreation Facility and the four synthetic sport fields.
  • Perform routine safety/risk management inspections of the outdoor spaces.
  • Remove trash from trash cans at outdoor fields.

Fitness Equipment, Pool, & Ice Rink Maintenance
  • Assistant in routine maintenance and repairs out the fitness equipment, Rec Center Pools and Ice Rink facilities.
  • Assist with repairs of the fitness equipment in the Recreation Center
  • Assist and become familiar with the operations of the Aquatics and Ice Rink
  • Assist with tasks to check the chemicals for the pools.
  • Assist with moving chemical/equipment to proper locations when needed.

Special Events/Projects
  • Collaborate and support to other areas within Student Affairs with planning, implementing, set up, tear down for special events and project.
  • Assist with support of special events when needed. Help with set up/tear down and custodial support when needed

Other Responsibilities
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings.
  • Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs, and committees as required. Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for Recreation Services and facility improvements.
  • Ensure that the Recreation Centers facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department quality by using and attending its offerings.
  • Assist with additional initiatives, assignments, and special projects as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with special events and activities as necessary.
  • Engage in annual diversity and inclusion training.
  • Available to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.


What You Should Know

  • The schedule for this position is Tuesday - Saturday 7am - 3:30pm.
  • The work associated with this position involves strenuous movement of heavy objects and fitness equipment like treadmills, elliptical, bikes, weight benches, and free weights. This includes stooping, bending, pushing and lifting up to 75 lbs.


What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $43,000 - $48,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Two (2) years of semi-skilled or skilled labor experience in the field of building or facility maintenance. Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.


What You Will Need

  • Ability to safely and effectively use a variety of tools.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, pool maintenance, and related tools and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to facility maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members, contractors, and other partners.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet goals.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor as required.
