Senior Director of Project Management and Construction
The Senior Director of Project Management and Construction supports Stony Brook Medicine's strategic mission by overseeing all capital facilities projects, both renovation and expansion of Stony Brook Medicine. The buildings encompass approximately 2.5M square feet of floor space and consist of Stony Brook University Hospital, New Bed Tower, Mart, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Ambulatory Care Building, and Eastern Long Island Hospital covering approximately 103 acres including parking structures and various parking lots throughout Stony Brook Medicine.
The Senior Director of Project Management and Construction reports directly to the Associate Director of Facilities and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the project management office, code compliance office, and construction trade and labor professionals. This includes managing and coordinating the activities of construction projects, developing project budgets and ensuring that goals and objectives of each project are accomplished while meeting specified timeframes and funding parameters.
Duties of the Senior Director of Project Management and Construction s may include the following but are not limited to:
Provides oversight and supervision of Stony Brook Medicine's Facilities Department in the daily operations of major capital construction projects and renovation projects. This includes the project management office, code compliance office, business office and hospital construction department.
- Provides a monthly activity reports of projects to the Associate Director.
- Schedules and conducts various department meetings, such as weekly construction meetings, ICRA meetings, and department head meetings. Schedules project and finance meetings as needed.
- May be called upon for other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Evidence of academic success with a Bachelor's Degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent with at least 5 years' supervisory experience of a team or division responsible for new construction, renovations, and alterations in a healthcare environment. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of ten years direct experience in leading a team or division responsible for supervising new construction, renovations, alterations, in a large healthcare facility setting.
- Must be well versed in new construction, renovations and alterations.
- Must have the ability to manage and track all TJC, CMS, OMH, inspections and to ensure follow up on regulatory compliance, maintenance requests, new construction and renovation projects requests.
- The right candidate must possess practical hands on experience in the fields of Infection Control, Fire Safety, NFPA, TJC, OSHA and NYS DOH regulations, as well as codes and regulations governing health care facilities.
- Knowledge of building codes and standards of practice.
- Knowledge of facilities planning and construction management processes and procedures including construction materials and latest methods for new construction, as well as renovations and alterations to meet best practices and ensure quality assurance.
- Knowledge of estimating, budgeting, and scheduling practices, including escalation factors and market trends.
- Skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and to compare them with construction progress.
- Experience in planning, coordinating, administering, and exercising strategic and overall operational controls.
- Must possess excellent and effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate with different audiences, including high level leadership, design firms, construction vendors and cross level stakeholders.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be a dedicated, reliable and flexible to work evening and weekends.
- Computer literate and experience with spreadsheet and project management programs are essential.
