The Senior Electrician performs maintenance and repair activities associated with electrical and elementary electronic equipment throughout the UTC campus. This includes maintenance and repair services for lighting, elevators (initial response), alarm systems, motors, building electrical systems, and high voltage electrical systems for the campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment: typical electrical equipment includes AC/DC power supplies, circuit breakers, transformer, generators, lighting equipment, clock, and bell systems, wiring in buildings and outdoor areas, and motors for pumps, fans, compressors, etc.; includes testing, adjusting, sequencing, synchronizing, and alignment
  • Participates in the maintenance and coordination of campus elevator systems, including coordination with and inspection of work by elevator maintenance contractor
  • Performs work activities associated with troubleshooting electrical equipment and circuit problems and resolves these or obtains assistance from supervisor
  • Performs task associated with re-lamping in buildings and parking areas, including changing bulbs and ballasts
  • Installs and/or modifies conduit and wire layouts for facility renovation/modification based on interpretation of diagrams and blueprints
  • Assists in other Facilities department functions as required


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in use of computer hardware, basic office software, and networking
  • Electric AC/DC troubleshooting skills including reading electrical diagrams
  • Extensive knowledge and repair skills for commercial/institutional building electrical systems and service (24V-480V)
  • Experience working with medium voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Experience in maintenance and repair type work, with particular emphasis in the repair of all types of electrical equipment

Minimum qualifications: Typically requires a high school diploma and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, Commercial Driver's License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Preferred qualifications: One year working with medium voltage electrical distribution systems, and experience in an institutional setting utilizing an underground electrical distribution system are preferred.
